ABOUT THE ASSISTANT PHOTO EDITOR ROLE AND OUR TEAM:

The Knot Magazine seeks a talented, creative and enthusiastic Assistant Photo Editor with 2+ years editorial experience to join our photo team of two. You're a match if you are resourceful, able to juggle a large volume of requests and projects in a fast-paced environment, work within tight deadlines, are comfortable working independently, and have a strong sense of what works visually in the print and wedding industry. You will report directly to the Photo Director and work closely with the art and editorial teams. The Assistant Photo Editor is a critical part of the creative department ensuring all high res needs are accounted for, while also contributing to photo research and shoot production. The Knot produces a quarterly National magazine and biannual Regional issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Photo research, editing, applying metadata and sourcing high-resolution images from stock, PR contacts and photographers, including real weddings, for The Knot National and Regional Magazines
  • Assist the Photo Director with photo shoot production and model casting
  • Producer and photo editor for FOB still life fashion shoot
  • Manage daily workflow of the Photo Department including organizing, managing and releasing hi-res images to production and retouching teams, file management, archiving images
  • Collaborate with Photo Director, Design Director and Edit team on story development and visual concepts
  • Clearing photos for cross-departmental use
  • Compile caption and credit information
  • Familiarity with photo contracts, usage rights, photo licensing and copyright

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Passionate about photography, fashion, style and all things weddings!
  • Editorial photo research and production experience, preferably with a media company
  • Highly organized, driven and assertive
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of relevant software (Photoshop, Bridge, K4, Excel, Google Docs, etc.)
  • Maintain positive work environment with high creative standards
  • Archival, digital and social experience a plus

ABOUT THE ASSOCIATE ART DIRECTOR ROLE AND OUR TEAM:

XO Group, The Knot Magazine seeks a talented and enthusiastic Associate Art Director with 4+ years editorial experience to join our creative design team. This is the number two spot in a fast paced three person art department. This position offers exposure to all aspects of the design process, from conceptualizing initial story ideas, art directing photo shoots to exploring new design ideas for all sections of the magazine. The Knot produces a quarterly National Magazine and Biannually Regional issues, that you will get to be a part of.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and design high-impact editorial pages, graphics and typography
  • Generate innovative visual storytelling ideas for FOB, BOB and multi layered Features
  • Elevate the Knot brand through current editorial design trends
  • Partner with Design Director, Photo Director and Edit team on story development and visual concepts
  • Direct still-life photography shoots
  • Manage individual page production, pagination and shipping
  • Ensure layouts meet the design and print standards throughout each issue cycle
  • Oversee and approve color correction and retouching
  • Manage daily workflow of the Art Department
  • Maintain positive work environment with high creative standards
  • Manage and direct interns and freelance staff
  • Contribute to and execute future redesign

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong understanding of editorial print design, visual hierarchy, the creative process and editorial problem solving
  • Exceptional design and typography skills
  • Advanced production skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Knowledge of Mac-based K4 system and work flow experience
  • Ability to multi-task numerous layouts and responsibilities under tight deadlines without compromising quality
  • In-depth knowledge of print production best practices
  • Passionate about design, photography, typography, fashion, style and all things weddings!
  • Leadership—confident in design abilities and able to articulate ideas and opinions
  • Experience in collaborating with photographers, stylist's and illustrators
  • A flexible personality and strong work ethic

ABOUT THE ASSOCIATE DIGITAL PHOTO EDITOR ROLE AND OUR TEAM:

TheKnot.com seeks a talented, creative and enthusiastic Associate Digital Photo Editor with 2+ years editorial experience to join our digital team. The candidate should be resourceful, solution-oriented, proactive, able to juggle a large volume of requests and projects in a fast-paced environment, work within tight deadlines, be comfortable working independently, and have a strong sense of what works visually in the online and wedding industry. They will report directly to the Senior Digital Editor and work closely with the photo and editorial teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Photo research, edit and source high-resolution images from real wedding images, stock, PR contacts and photographers to be used in digital stories, across all social platforms and weekly newsletter
  • Manage photographers and interns for Bridal Market
  • Resize images for all social platforms
  • Collaborate with edit team on story development and visual concepts, including video
  • Clear photos for cross-departmental use
  • Compile caption and credit information
  • Creation of social graphics, gifs, etc.
  • Familiarity with photo contracts, usage rights, photo licensing and copyright

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

ABOUT THE REAL WEDDINGS EDITOR ROLE AND OUR TEAM:

XO Group, The Knot Magazine seeks a talented and enthusiastic Real Weddings Editor with 4+ years editorial experience to join our Real Weddings team. You’ll be one of two Real Wedding editors researching, writing and editing all the Real Weddings features, and reporting on regional wedding trends. The Knot produces a quarterly national magazine and 16 biannual regional issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with Real Weddings team to review, source and pitch submissions for your Real Weddings stories
  • Generate other trend-worthy pitches for Real Wedding-related story franchises
  • Write weekly assignments for print and online
  • Contribute to the top editing of other staff or freelance articles
  • Regular communication with couples and vendors to accurately report and credit your real wedding stories
  • Create a database of industry experts and contacts.
  • Source and call-in products for trend-based articles
  • Serve as a brand ambassador for The Knot at networking and social events
  • Manage and direct interns and freelance staff
  • Research and understand the needs and trends of regional markets
  • Some travel may be required

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong understanding of wedding industry trends, experts and traditions/cultures of weddings around the world
  • Exceptional writing abilities to share the “yours truly” moments that make our Real Wedding stories unique
  • Media trained with on-camera and live event experience
  • Trend forecasting for all media outlets
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, Mac-Based K4 Systems and InCopy. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Docs
  • Undergraduate emphasis in journalism or English
  • Ability to multitask and juggle a number of  responsibilities under tight deadlines without compromising quality
  • Leadership—confidence in owning your stories, and able to articulate and debate ideas and opinions
  • A flexible personality and strong work ethic
