ABOUT THE EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP ROLE AND THE BUMP TEAM:

Our part-time, paid internship program will give you the opportunity to gain invaluable on-the-job experience at the premier consumer internet, tech and media company devoted to weddings, pregnancy and everything in between. You can expect to learn a great deal about the baby media and online marketplace industries, experience what it’s like to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment and network with our teammates and awesome interns from all around the world!

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Bump, a leading pregnancy and early parenting website and app, seeks a fall intern with a strong interest in online publishing. You’ll learn an incredible amount about how a website is run and maintained on a day-to-day basis by helping to pitch and write daily news stories, build and optimize articles in a content management system and research products and trends, as well as assisting in other general departmental projects.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

The right candidate for this position will be smart, enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, a problem solver, a go-getter and, above all, a team player.

  •       You must be a strong writer and tech- and Internet-savvy
  •       Undergraduate emphasis in journalism, English or communications
  •       Ability to work efficiently, multitask effectively and meet deadlines
  •       Experience with Google Docs and Adobe Photoshop is preferred
  •       Basic knowledge of SEO and CMS is a plus
  •       An interest in pregnancy and babies is also helpful

You must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program or be a recent grad to apply. This is a paid internship and school credit is optional.

ABOUT THE PRODUCT DESIGNER INTERNSHIP AND THE CONTENT & INSPIRATION TEAM:

Our paid winter internship program will give you the opportunity to gain invaluable on-the-job experience at the premier consumer internet, tech and media company devoted to weddings, pregnancy and everything in between. You can expect to learn a great deal about the wedding & baby media and online marketplace industries, experience what it is like to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment, and network with our teammates and awesome interns from all around the world! This internship will be between 30-40 hours per week-dependent on the department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with your Product Design mentors to help solve the complex needs of our users on the web and in apps.
  • Brainstorm and collaborate with other product designers, product managers, and engineers.
  • Help create mockups, prototypes, and design specifications.
  • Assist with user research and usability testing to validate design solutions, including analysis and synthesis of output from a variety of qualitative methodologies.
  • Practice user-centered design, focusing not only on how the product looks but also how it works.
  • Learn how The Knot and The Bump use agile process and iterative development to rapidly deliver solutions.
  • You will obtain real-world experience working as a Product Designer on a truly cross-functional agile team.
  • Portfolio-worthy work and opportunity to practice presenting your work in a design critique format and getting feedback on suggested improvements
  • Professional support from not only your assigned mentor but also the rest of the product design team.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Creative problem solving: Understand user needs as well as technical or business limitations, explore and ideate multiple design solutions, partner with product design mentor, engineers and product managers to assess feasibility
  • Initiative: Lead/drive your project, meet deadlines and manage time. Be a self-starter but also know when to reach out for help.
  • Agility: Excels at working in a fast-paced and fluid environment.
  • Passion for Design: You are obsessed with finding ways to improve interactions, products, or experiences in your daily life.
  • Pursuing a degree or a recent grad in digital/interaction design, UX or a related field
  • Nice to have: online portfolio showcasing recent school projects, freelance work, or even projects you have worked on in your spare time for fun
  • Nice to have: software proficiency in one or more of the following: Sketch, Invision, Marvel, Balsamiq, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Omnigraffle, Axure, Framer, Principle, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
