  • You know how to break down a complex project into workable stories (tickets, components, etc).

  • You have good instincts around behavioral data, even if you’re still getting to know platforms like Google Analytics and Mixpanel.
  • You know how to collaborate with designers, engineers, and business stakeholders to get stuff done.
  • Though new to it, you’re eager to ramp up your Agile skills (your copy of The Lean Startup is dog-eared, underlined, highlighted, and worn-in through re-reading).
  • You have some experience leading Scrum/Agile meetings and standups.
  • You’ve at least started to understand User Science -- like surveys, interviews, and usability testing -- and are really, really excited to learn more.
  • You’ve got a couple solid releases on your resume, and don’t mind bragging about them….
  • ...but you can also pick out a few ways that those releases could have gone better.
  • You’re a stellar communicator -- on paper, in person, over email, on Hangouts, via Slack, and whatever else they think of next (telepathy?).

What you’ll love about us:

  • We always put our users first -- and our users are awesome.
  • We’ve got awesome products that solve real problems.
  • We’re a real business! At The Knot, you’ll have both the fun, entrepreneurial spirit of an innovative startup and the stability of a 20-year-old company with money in the bank.

Sr. Product Manager - The Knot’s Fashion Products

XO Group is seeking an experienced and impassioned Sr. Product Manager to lead our fashion products. We’re looking for that special someone to ensure that The Knot stays #1 in Weddings by bringing your entrepreneurial spirit, creative problem solving, and user-centric design thinking to our team.

You’ll oversee strategy and execution for several galleries and the highly engaging LookBook app (iOS & Android) that act as marketplace for our couples - find their own style, favorite the products they love, and match with local vendors where they can be tried out and purchased. Key categories include the first big purchase (engagement ring), their wedding day attire (wedding dress, tux, jewelry, accessories), and the attire for the key members of their wedding party (bridesmaids, groomsmen, mother of the bride, and even flower girl!).

We are actively working to evolve all of The Knot to be much more useful for our couples. The first big example of this in fashion launched last month. Our new product helps a partner find the engagement rings they love, then performs a heuristic analysis on those rings and unveils her "style". Then she can "drop a hint" to the proposer, who needs all the help they can get to actually buy the right thing! It's a great user-centered approach to an old problem, and we are looking to take similar thinking to our other fashion verticals. Our expertise and direct partnerships with designers enables us to create a much more useful, personalized experience for our couples than other options (Pinterest, department stores, picking a local store at random).

Some great press coverage as well!

What we love about you:

  • You put the user first. Always. No excuses.
  • You’ve been in Product a solid five years, at least three in Agile.
  • You love learning and working with a team that loves learning as well.
  • You always refer to data in making product decisions (experience with Mixpanel, Segment, Google Analytics, Customer.io).
  • You are experienced with the world of fashion, but know the future will be about providing value, not just optimizing funnels.
  • Marketing teams love working with you because you “get it”.
  • Execs and stakeholders appreciate your proactive communication and your collaborative style.
  • Designers want to work with you because you’re a great partner to them. You’ve also got keen aesthetics and empathy, and a user-driven mentality.
  • Engineers are excited to work with you, because you’re conversant in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and APIs. You’re empathetic to their unique needs, and you believe there’s such a thing as tech debt.
  • You’re a ruthless prioritizer, and have great instincts when it comes to what matters.
  • You believe in accommodating user needs *and* business requirements.
  • You communicate clearly and effectively -- on paper, in person, over email/chat, and in specs.
  • Rapid-prototyping tools like Sketch, InVision, and Framer really rev your design engine.

  • This role is a great mix of forward-thinking strategy and highly creative, design-centered feature development.
  • The Knot is an excellent brand -- more than ⅔ of brides in America know about The Knot before they’re even engaged!
  • Your Marketing and PR partners are knowledgeable and collaborative, having built up key relationships in the industry over many years.
  • You’ll work closely with our outstanding User Science team to gain feedback and insights directly from users.
  • Our users love The Knot and our products!
